  Grief Support: The Compassionate Friends

Self-Help organization for parents who have experienced the death of a child

The Compassionate Friends of Canada is a unique organization that no one wants to join. There are no membership fees - the price of membership is the death of a child, which makes our organization the most expensive membership in the world.

The Compassionate Friends of Canada was founded in England in 1969, the United States in 1972, and Canada in 1977 and currently operates as separate entities in nearly 30 countries around the world.

Our Mission Statement

~ The Compassionate Friends of Canada , an International, non-denominational, non-profit, volunteer self-help organization, offering friendship, understanding, grief education and HOPE for the future to families who have experienced the death of a child at any age, from any cause.

The Compassionate Friends of Canada is a self-help group for the special needs of parents who have experienced the death of a child at any age, from any cause.

We assist families toward the positive reconciliation of grief following the death of a child and foster the physical and emotional health of bereaved parents and their surviving children.

We provide information, education about bereaved parents, surviving children and the grieving process.

We help communities including family, friends, employers, co-workers & professionals to be supportive.

The Compassionate Friends of Canada success is simple: As seasoned grievers reach out to the newly bereaved, energy that has been directed inward begins to flow outward and both are helped to heal. The vision of The Compassionate Friends is that everyone who needs us will find us and everyone who finds us will be helped.

Nev Foundation felt it is important to have this information on the website for anyone who needs the support – it is a fantastic organization and great website – in the early years when I didn’t have the strength to talk or visit; I would spend hours in the middle of the night reading other people’s stories on this website.
